It's national competition week! Our Columbus-Northwest Team is at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas competing in the 2010 Cross Country Dance Championships!

2010 Cross Country Dance Championships - Now
Pro/Am competitions began last night and continue tonight, Friday, and Saturday. The Pro competition is Friday night beginning at 7pm. We know that you are all wishing the best of luck to Sandy Nelson, Nick Rangel, Katie & Daniel, and Katherine & John! We know they are pumped up and ready to show their best!

The Vegas Dance Party - THANK YOU!
We give a big thank you to Michael Rose for putting on a great show at the Vegas dance party last Friday, and we thank him for staying all evening! We also thank Katherine for putting together such a great party and all of our students for making it possible.

Michael Rose - Saturday at La Scala
There will be no Group Class and Dance party on Friday (16th), so we hope that you will join Michael Rose at La Scala's Martini Lounge and Supper Club this Saturday night for "The King's Gold Live!" The dinner show begins at 7:30pm. Find out more information.

Eric Luna - Thursday (22nd)
Eric Luna will be in our Studio next Thursday! Being a a ten-time National Fred Astaire Theatrical Champion and being honored as one of Fred Astaire's Top Teachers, he is in high demand!

Mr. Luna's dance card is almost full for Personal Coaching Sessions on Thursday. Be sure to contact the Studio on Monday is you want to reserve one of the few remaining sessions. While in the Studio, he will be leading a Group Class at 7:45pm.

Team Match - Sunday, June 13th
Ohio's Northern Dance Challenge is the next dance competition, and we already have students who are interested in competing. If you would like to join the team, please let your instructor know. Also, let your instructor know if you are interested in finding an amateur partner.

Team Match is Sunday, June 13th at LaMalfa Center in Mentor, Ohio.

Ladies and Gents,
As you all know, students Sandy Nelson and Nick Rangel and our instructors/pro-partners Katie & Daniel and Katherine & John are heading to Las Vegas next week to compete at the Cross Country Dance Championship. They are very excited, so the Vegas fun is beginning tonight!

Viva Las Vegas Dance Party - TONIGHT
Come to the Studio as we bring Las Vegas to you! Ladies, wear colorful boas. Gents, wear Fedoras or visors like the card dealers.

Entertainment for the evening includes spotlight dances by Sandy and Nick. And, Katie & Daniel and Katherine & John will perform their Vegas-ready pro routines.

There will also be a special appearance by the King himself - Michael Rose! If you went to the show at Villa Milano, you know this is a good time, guaranteed!

The Las Vegas fun begins at 7:45pm.

At last week's party, Pat Wedge won a personal coaching session with Eric Luna (who will be here Thursday, April 22!) and Sandy Nelson won the Top Hat drawing.

What's Happening - April 12-16
Next week, Kate, Katie and Daniel will be at the Studio Monday and Tuesday. John will be at the Studio until Wednesday. And, JJ will in Monday through Thursday. Be sure to schedule your personal dance sessions soon before their time fills up.

Michael Rose at La Scala - Saturday, April 17
There will be no Group Class and Dance party next Friday (16th) while our dance team is in Las Vegas.

Eric Luna - Thursday, April 22nd
The tremendously talented Eric Luna will be in our Studio Thursday, April 22nd. He and his partner, Georgia Ambarian, have appeared on Dancing with the Stars and Superstars of Dance.

Eric has the honor of being one Fred Astaire's Top Teachers. He has also won the National Fred Astaire Smooth title, and he is a ten-time National Fred Astaire Theatrical Champion. With Georgia, they have won the US National Cabaret Championship as well as Ohio Star Ball Champions. Learn more about Eric Luna.

Team Match - June 13th
Ohio's Northern Dance Challenge is coming up in June. If you would like to compete, please let your instructor know. Also, let your instructor know if you are interested in finding an amateur partner.

Ladies and Gents,
An overall sigh of relief was audible this morning because Columbus is waking up to warm weather and it's Friday. Two great reasons to dance and celebrate!

Spring Birthday Party - Tonight
Tonight, we will be celebrating our Spring Birthday Peeps. If you have a birthday in April, May or June, be at the party tonight so that we can celebrate you! There will be good times, as always, and we hope that you will wear your favorite spring colors! Group Class and Dance Party begin at 7:45pm.

Spotlight Dances
We have even more reasons for you to come to the Group Class and Dance Party tonight. Sandy Nelson will be dancing her Open Cha Cha routine. And, the Liebers will be performing their Waltz wedding dance.

We're always looking to show off our students, and there's no better way to do that than for you to perform a spotlight dance! Talk with your dance instructor if you're interested. With our Studio, you know you will have a great crowd to cheer you on!

2010 Cross Country Dance Championships (CCDC) - Las Vegas - April 14-18
The CCDC is less than two weeks away! Students Nick Rangel and Sandy Nelson will be representing our Studio, and Katherine & John and Katie & Daniel will be competing in the Pro Divisions. We're excited!!! Wish them all the best of luck when you are in the Studio!

It's Friday... Let's Dance!!!

Ladies and Gents,
It's finally Friday! There's even more snow, unfortunately, and some have said that this has been the longest week ever. These are two very good reasons to let your hair down and come to the dance party tonight!

Group Class & Dance Party - Tonight
Everyone has been doing the Don't-Slip-and-Fall dance outside for the past month, so the Group Class & Dance Party on Friday nights is the place to show off your true dancing skills! Group class begins at 7:45pm and the Dance Party begins at 8:15pm.

If you missed last week's Mardi Gras Party, Audra and Travis Garrison were the big winners of the evening! They acquired the most beads and even won the monthly Top Hat drawing!

Guests!
You can always bring guests on Friday nights and give them your intro to ballroom dancing 101. As you know, we LOVE guests! Another guest contest is in the works, so bring in friends, family, co-workers, or even your mailman. Guests who complete the Introductory Special equals free dance lessons for you. Everyone loves a free lesson!

Spotlight Dances
A good way to get your friends and family to come out to the Studio is to perform a Spotlight Dance. Working with your instructor on your dance is a great way to improve the moves you know and work on technique and style. You will also learn how to put more of YOU in your dancing! There is no prerequisite to performing a spotlight dance. Just let your instructor know that you want to be in the spotlight!

Tonight, Sandy Nelson and Daniel Tackett will be performing a Spotlight Dance, and Katherine and John will be performing as well.

Tomorrow morning, Katherine and John will be heading to the Indiana Challenge 2010 in Merrillville, Indiana. Be at the Studio tonight and wish them luck!

Upcoming Competitions
The Freddy Ball is Sunday, March 14th! The competition is right here in downtown Columbus. We are excited for our team of Pro/Am and Pro Competitors, as well as our big group of spectators that will be attending. We know they'll be loud!!!

The Cross Country Dance Championships (CCDC) is April 14-17 in Las Vegas. If you would like to compete at this event, your dance entries must be received no later than next Saturday, March 6th.

JJ and Daniel are happy to report that our dear Ms. Pat Wedge is doing great after knee surgery! They stopped in to visit with her earlier in the week. We are all looking forward to her return!

Mardi Gras Party!

Ladies and Gents,
We're celebrating Mardi Gras this Friday at the Dance Studio! Some of you may have already decided on what you will be giving up for the next 40 days, and we hope this leaves room for more dancing!

Dance Party - Tomorrow (19th)
Be at the Dance Studio Friday night at 7:45pm. In lieu of the traditional group class, we will begin the evening with contests that will win you Mardi Gras beads. Get the most beads, and you will win a prize!

Attire for the evening - Think Mardi Gras! Wear a mask or carnival costume if you have one. It will be yet another fun night to be at the Studio!

In addition to the contests and prizes, there will be Spotlight Dances by Sandy Nelson and Kelli Schuster.

Katherine and John will also be performing a Spotlight Dance. They are competing in the Indiana Challenge 2010 next week in Merrillville, Indiana.

The Freddy Ball - Sunday, March 14th
We have a new competitor to The Freddy Ball - Mr. Nick Rangel. We know he will do well in next month's dance competition and our spectators will be there to cheer for our Columbus Northwest Team!

A Date 2 Remember
Many thanks to everyone who came out to the CYP CLUB's "A Date 2 Remember" at BoMA. The event raised more than $30,000 charity!

The winning bid for Mr. Daniel Tackett's "Dance with a Star" date package was $1750. That number exceeded Daniel's expectations! Date participant and student Dianna Williams helped Daniel sell his date package by joining him for a Cha Cha and Hustle on stage.

It was a fabulous evening with great food and entertainment, and it was all for two great non-profit organizations - A Kid Again and Capital Area Humane Society.

Snow Storm - Part Deux! The Studio is CLOSED.

Ladies and Gents,

The Studio is closing due to the latest snow storm. This may be the worst winter ever!!!

Social Foundation class with Katie is canceled for tonight. If you had a lesson scheduled for later today, your instructor will be contacting you to reschedule your lesson.

Stay in and watch the Olympics! Pairs figure skating, women's luge and men's 500 meter speed skating are the events to see.

Cher Rutherford and St. Valentine's Day!

Ladies and Gents,
It's been a wintry mess for the past week, and we all have braved these snowstorms very well! As much as we are ready for Spring, all of this cold weather is perfect during this week of the year for keeping warm with your loved one. It's Valentine's Day!

Cher Rutherford is in the Studio!
First and foremost, we welcome Ms. Cher Rutherford to the Studio today! The current Canadian National Dance Director and Examiner has held the titles of the United States American Style Open Smooth/Rhythm Champion, United States Theatrical Champion, and Fred Astaire National Champion.

Personal Coaching Sessions are still available, so contact the studio to reserve a time.

Ms. Rutherford will be leading two group classes this evening. The Rhythm Group Class begins at 7pm, and the Smooth Group Class begins at 7:45pm. Sign up for both classes or bring a friend and you will save money!

St. Valentine's Day Dance Party - Friday (12th)
The Valentine's Day dance party is perfect for the next Pink Diamonds performance to Ashley Simpson's L.O.V.E. Join us tomorrow night as Sandy, Paula, Mary Jean and Sharon take the floor to show off the latest and greatest choreography by Katie and Katherine.

Wear red! Wear pink! And, share your love of our Columbus-Northwest dance studio by bringing a friend! We hope that they will fall in love with ballroom dancing too!

Group class begins at 7:45pm as always, and the dance party begins at 8:15pm.

The Freddy Ball - Entry Deadline Extended
The deadline for entries to The Freddy Ball has been extended through the weekend. If you plan on competing or attending the event as a spectator, please let Daniel know by Saturday.

The dance competition is in Downtown Columbus on Sunday, March 14th. There's no reason for you not to be there!

CYP CLUB's "A Date 2 Remember" - Saturday (13th)
The 3rd Annual "A Date 2 Remember" presented by the CYP CLUB is THIS Saturday at BoMA. The young professional date auction and fashion show currently has 500+ guests registered to attend. It's a great way to support two local non-profit organizations - A Kid Again and Capital Area Humane Society.

Our fabulous Daniel Tackett is participating as a bachelor in the charity event! He has put together a "Dance with a Star" date package that includes personal ballroom dance lessons, dinner for two, and a private coaching session with one of the dance professionals from Dancing with the Stars!

Snow Storm! The Studio is Closed.

Ladies and Gents,

The weather is definitely not looking good for the rest of the evening, so we are closing the Studio. We know we have a great group of people who go through the extremes to get here and dance, but we want you all to be safe tonight.

Club Astaire will be on hold until next week along with the performance by the Pink Diamonds and the spotlight dance by Ms. Kelli Schuster.

If you had a lesson scheduled for later today, your instructor will be contacting you to reschedule your lesson. For those who have lessons scheduled for tomorrow and for those who attend Ballroom Fitness, Daniel will be deciding if the Studio will be open or closed by 8am. Please check the website or listen to the Studio voicemail for the update before you leave home.

Club Astaire Welcomes the Pink Diamonds!

Ladies and Gents,

The groundhog saw his shadow yesterday and predicted that we will have six more weeks of winter. However, his foretelling may be overshadowed by your own predictions of who will win the Super Bowl this Sunday. But, no prognosticating is necessary to see that there are DIAMONDS in your immediate future! (They're even PINK!)

The Pink Diamonds! - Friday (5th)
The Columbus Northwest dance studio will be transformed once again for the next performance by The Pink Diamonds. This Friday, you will be welcomed to "Club Astaire!"

Sharon, Paula, Mary Jean and Sandy will be taking the floor with a dance choreographed by Katie and Katherine to Ashlee Simpson's L.O.V.E.

Ms. Kelli Schuster will also be performing her first Spotlight Dance with John Kitlinski, so it's definitely a night not to be missed!

Dress to impress and be at the Group Class and Dance Party at 7:45pm. Be sure to invite your friends to "Club Astaire" too!

Spotlight Dances & Exhibition Groups
If you'd like to be in the spotlight, talk to your instructor about creating your own dance routine. Daniel, Katherine, JJ, John and Katie are more than happy to work with you to find the best music and dance to fit your personality and style. It's a great way to work on what you know and focus on performance and technique, as well as to get all your family and friends to the dance studio!

Also, with the success of The Pink Diamonds, we will be adding more exhibition group classes to our studio schedule in the near future. If you missed the chance to be participate in this round or have friends who are interested in joining these classes, please let us know. Plans are in the works, and we want to include as many people as possible!

As we mentioned last week, Daniel Tackett will be participating as a bachelor in the CYP CLUB's 3rd Annual "A Date 2 Remember" young professional date auction and fashion show for charity. Daniel has put together a date package which will include dance lessons and a private dinner and dancing for two at one of the areas finest restaurants.

Columbus CEO Magazine has voted "A Date 2 Remember" the 2nd Best Charity Event in Columbus behind the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure, so it's an event not to be missed!

"A Date 2 Remember" will be taking place at BoMA (583 E. Broad Street) from 7-11pm. Two local non-profit organizations, A Kid Again and Capital Area Humane Society, will benefit from the proceeds raised at the event. Last year, more than 600 people attended the event and raised over $25,000 for charity.

The Pink Diamonds at Moulin Rouge!

Ladies and Gents,

Many thanks to all who came out to the Columbus Maennerchor last Friday. We had a great time! We're very happy to see how much everyone is enjoying our out-on-the-town parties, and we're looking for more locations to take you to and show you off. The Pink Diamonds! - TOMORROW (29th)
Tomorrow night is the first of two performances by The Pink Diamonds, the first ladies exhibition group at the studio! There may not be a red windmill outside, but you will be welcomed to "Moulin Rouge" when you step into the studio for the Friday night dance party!

Ladies, wear a can-can dress or a feather boa if you have one. And, gentlemen, look classy! Vous Français parlant is not necessary, but you may learn (or re-learn) a French phrase before the night is done.

With all the excitement of the first ladies exhibition group classes, we now have two groups. Jackyn, Vaidila, Arlette, Kelli, Pat & Dianna will be performing their dance routine tomorrow night to "Lady Marmalade." And, next Friday (5th), Sharon, Paula, Mary Jean & Sandy will take the floor at "Club Astaire." (Katherine and Katie are definitely having a lot of fun with this!!!)

Needless to say, we will be adding more exhibition group classes to our studio schedule. If you missed your chance to be a part of it this time around or if you have friends who would enjoy being a part of it, please be sure to let us know as we plan for our next session.

Eddi Apolonov is in the Studio!

Ladies and Gents,

We are extremely excited to have Mr. Eddi Apolonov in the Studio today! A World Class Adjudicator, Dance Champion and National Judge for NDCA, Mr. Apolonav has been ranked as one of the top ballroom dancers in the world. And, with a Masters Degree in Choreography, he has coached some of the top competitive professionals in the country. If you are working on a dance showcase, solo or open routine, you should definitely reserve a Personal Coaching Session with Mr. Apolonov. He will help you bring the most out of your routine! Sessions are still available. Please contact the Studio as soon as possible to reserve your spot.

Mr. Apolonov will be leading the Group Dance Class this evening, and he will be focusing on Animation and Expression. These are two key elements that will definitely get you noticed on the dance floor. The class begins at 7:45pm. Please contact the Studio as soon as possible to sign up.

Out on the Town - Columbus Maennerchor (Tomorrow - 22nd)
It's another night out on the town! In lieu of the Friday night group class and dance party, we will be heading to the Columbus Maennerchor [www.maennerchor.com] to dance to big band "Swing's the Thing!" The event begins at 8pm. We will be leaving the Studio around 8pm, however you can choose to meet us there. Parking is free and there are plenty of spaces available. Also, if you need to brush up on your Swing or Fox Trot, schedule a lesson with your dance instructor before tomorrow night.

The Pink Diamonds
Our new and sassy ladies groups, led by instructors Katherine and Katie, will be performing their new dance routines soon! Lady Marmalade will be performed next Friday (29th) and the Lady Gaga routine will be performed Friday, February 5th. Ask Daniel, JJ and John... you do not want to miss these performances!

Last week the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire Dance Studio had the pleasure of hosting World American Smooth Champion Jonathan Roberts. Thanks to those of you who braved the snow to train with Mr. Roberts. He had a wonderful time working with the private lessons and group class and would be happy to come back again once he gets his schedule lined up with Dancing with the Stars.

The Black Tie Party
The Black Tie party was a lot of fun! Nothing like dressing to the nines and dancing the night away! About the only thing that can top that off is winning prizes that included gift certificates, bonus lessons and more with one of the most sought after prizes, "Dance Till You Drop," a day pass for private lessons going to Dmitry & Jaclyn Peresetsky. That day is going to be so much fun!

Congratulations to Paula Scott, our winner of the monthly Top Hat drawing. That is the second time Paula has one in the last 3 months. Positive proof that the more you more often you are here the better chance you have of winning.

Eddi Apolonav - Thursday (21st)
Next Thursday January 21st, Fred Astaire Columbus Northwest will is lucky enough to have Mr. Eddi Apolonav coaching in our studio. Mr. Apolonav has quite an extensive dance resume as a Latin Champion, World Class Adjudicator and National Judge for NDCA. As a coach, he is distinguished for his choreography for Showcases, Solos, Novelties and Open Routines, coaching some of the top competitive professions in the country. So be sure to reserve your spot as soon as possible.

The Freddy Ball - March 14th
Fred Astaire's Ohio Regional Competition, Freddy Ball, is coming up March 14th. This is a great short term goal for students of any level to improve their dancing and share the experience and excitement of performing. You will get to see your instructors competing in pro divisions and enjoy a professions show by the judges at the end of the night. Best of all the competition will take place right here in downtown Columbus. The deadline for registration is February 10th, so be sure to reserve the entries you would like to dance.

The Pink Diamonds
Katherine and Katie have assemble a ladies exhibition group, the Pink Diamonds and are putting together a performance that will take place right here in our studio. The ladies are having a great time working on it and the rest of us are eagerly awaiting their debut performance!

Out on the Town - Next Friday (22nd)
Great news, we are planning another Out on the Town, Friday the 22nd. You know what that means, schedule some lessons and get polished up because when we go out on the town we like to go all out. You never know what dance we might throw at you next!

This Thursday is bringing us snowy weather, but never fear... Dancing with the Stars' Jonathan Roberts is here!

Personal Coaching Sessions with Mr. Roberts are still available during the day and a primetime session at 7:45pm just became available. If you'd like this time slot, contact the studio immediately!

Mr. Roberts will be leading the Group Class tonight at 8:30pm, and he will be focusing on the Rumba. This is definitely a class you do not want to miss. We hope to see you there!

As always, the Group Class and Dance Party are tomorrow night (Friday) beginning at 7:45pm, and Ballroom Fitness is bright and early on Saturday at 10am. The upbeat style and fast pace of that class works well with all New Year's Resolutions!

This year has gone by so fast, and we only have a couple more days until 2010. Naturally, we want to start it off with a bang!

Black Tie Party - Saturday (2nd)
Your job is to dress to the nines and come ready to celebrate another fabulous year of great times with new friends! It's the best party every year! We'll supply wine and champagne, hors d'oeuvres, the dance floor and a whole lot of energy!

The Black Tie Party is this Saturday, January 2nd from 7-9pm at the Studio. Bring yourself, bring a friend and look fabulous!

Festival - Gift Boxes!
The opening of the gift boxes will be at the Black Tie Party this Saturday! You still have time to upgrade your box, so be sure to talk with your instructor about upgrade options.

Guests
The total number of guests entered in our Guest Competition is 10. If you have someone that plans on coming in for their Introductory Sessions, they need to be in before the 30th to qualify.

Congratulations to Sheizka Komala, the winner of our "Freeze Dance" competition at this past Friday's Dance Party. This Friday should be even better as I have already overheard Katherine and Katie plotting out the games.

Guest Competition

We know everyone is busy preparing for the holidays, and we've been busy too. The studio is decorated for FESTIVAL! Happy Thanksgiving!

Ladies and Gents,
Can you believe it? Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and the holiday hustle and bustle are here! We actually would be quite proud of all of you if you start dancing the hustle while holiday shopping. ;)

The Studio will be closed for Thanksgiving Day on Thursday. We will be open Friday and Saturday for personal dance sessions by appointment only. If you need a break from the shopping madness, call the Studio and schedule a lesson!

Out on the Town
Big band "Swing's the Thing" will be taking the stage this Friday night at Columbus Maennerchor (966 S. High Street), so we heading Out on the Town! There will be no group class, so we will meet at the Studio at 7:45pm. You will have a fabulous night dancing the Swing, Mambo, Waltz, Cha-Cha and more in a huge ballroom to a LIVE band!!!

Ohio Star Ball
Katherine and John made the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire team very proud this weekend competing in both the World Open American Smooth Championship and the Rising Star American Smooth Championship. There were a great many students present to cheer them on and John and Katherine were happy to report that they could hear the cheers for their number all the way down on the competition floor. We can hardly wait till next year when those loud and proud spectators show up to represent our team dancing in the competition!

Holiday Dance Showcase
December is approaching fast, so don't forget to see Daniel about your showcase dances for the Holiday performance with the Canal Winchester Fred Astaire.

Not to mention, the deadline for the Guest Competition is December 30th, so the count down is on!

Costume Dance Party at the Studio!

We hope everyone is ready for Halloween! If you have been to the Studio, you know that we are!

Halloween Party - Friday
Our regular Group Class and Dance Party will be a Halloween Party this Friday night! Come to the party masked in your best costume. There will be a contest! Costumes will be judged by those who attend and we will be giving out prizes for Best Costume and Best Couples Costume.

Ohio Northern Dance Challenge - November 8th
We hope that you come to the Halloween Party in order to see a sneak peek at our Team Match competitors Pat Wedge and Sandy Nelson. At the competition, these ladies will be competing in a variety of dances in 41 heats including open choreography that they have been working on in their coachings.

If you are interested in joining in the fun as a spectator and cheering on our team, please let Daniel know ASAP! Pat and Sandy would most certainly appreciate all of the support you can bring!!!

National Dance Championships - John and Katherine
John and Katherine had a great first showing at the Fred Astaire National Dance Competition in Orlando, Florida. They even brought back a DVD of their heats to share with everyone at the studio. Be sure to swing in and take a look at what you can experience when we all go to the 2010 Cross Country Dance Championship, April 14-17 in Las Vegas.

It's a Team Match competition and the first one that the Columbus Northwest studio where we'll need to defend our Top Studio trophy. Be in the Spotlight!

Ladies and Gents,
Your Columbus Northwest Staff returned from the Fred Astaire National Training Seminar where we spent the weekend working with former and current US Champions, World Champions & Dance Board Members: Armando Martin, Martin Lamb, Stephen Knight, Dan Rutherford and Nicole Carroll. So, needless to say it is in your best interest to get into the studio as soon as possible and take advantage of all of that training first hand!

Spotlight Dances
One way to take advantage of your instructor's training is to perform in a Spotlight Dance. We are looking for students to show off their great dance talents with some cool choreography in a Spotlight Dance. Your instructor will work with you to pick a song and dance style that will show you at your best.

Ohio Northern Dance Challenge - November 8th
It's a Team Match competition! Join the Columbus Northwest studio as we defend our trophy for Top Studio. Come one, come all, find a teammate and sign on to help us bring our trophy back!

The official start to Fall has been ushered in with some rather dreary and humid weather. Hopefully, our newsletter will help brighten your day or at least provide a temporary distraction. There's nothing wrong with daydreaming about ballroom dancing all day or practicing the Cha Cha while waiting on the coffee to be made at the office. You may want to be sure your cup is empty though when practicing underarm turns! ;)

The Ohio Northern Dance Challenge (Team Match) is November 8th in Mentor, Ohio.

The Ohio Star Ball is October 17th-22nd in Downtown Columbus.

Staff Seminar
The Columbus Northwest Staff will be traveling to the Fred Astaire National Training Seminar where they will spend the weekend working with former and current US Champions, World Champions, Dance Board Members & Dance Directors: Armando Martin, Martin Lamb, Stephen Knight, Dan Rutherford & Nicole Carroll.

September is here and Festival begins THIS FRIDAY! Be sure to come to the Friday Group Lesson at 7:45pm and stay for the Dance Party where we will debut fun and exciting games to keep you dancing.

This Saturday, the fabulous Chantal LeClerc will be at the studio. Improve your skills and take advantage of the opportunity to be coached by a dance champion! Talk with your instructor and schedule a personal coaching session with her.

Sunshine Ball
For those of you who have not competed, there is an event just for you: The Sunshine Ball!The event will be held at the East Studio on Friday, September 18th, and it is open to new competitors only. If you are interested, talk with your instructor for more information.

Labor Day

Dancing with the Stars. Just next week Jonathan Roberts and Anna Trebunskaya will be in our studio this Wednesday and Thursday! They are available for private sessions and also have open spots in their group lessons at 8:30pm each night. Don't miss an opportunity to meet

Friday Night Movie. This Friday we have changed our normal party into an Out on the Town Movie Night to see Dirty Dancing on the big screen! Dawn has a degree in dance and has been in numerous movies and TV shows during the time she lived in L.A. John was an instructor in Florida before deciding to relocate to Columbus to teach as well as compete with Kate (John is 6'3")!

For those of you who haven't heard, Charlie Penatello is in our studio doing private and group coaching sessions today and tomorrow!!!!!!!!

Charlie Penatello has been training dancers for nearly 40 years, Mr. Penatello is the champion of many titles, including 3 years as undefeated U.S. Smooth and Rhythm Champion. As a National Dance Council Member, Mr. Penatello is one of the most respected and sought after coaches in the nation and it is an honor to have him at
the Columbus Northwest Studio.

We got a Trophy We got a Trophy Hey Hey Hey Hey!!! Despite all odds, our team of 9 students managed to score high enough marks to bring us home the TOP STUDIO TROPHY (that Daniel has been talking about for the past four years). We can't thank the competitors and spectators enough for such a wonderful event. If there was a LOUDEST TEAM trophy we would have taken that one too. Daniel Tackett and Chelsea made their debut as a professional couple dancing a rockin' ChaCha while Jennifer Hiser won the Mix and Match with Josh Tilford. Out on the Town. We would like to invite everyone to come out dancing with us this Friday night. Meet at the studio at 7:45pm for a 'Foxy' Group Lesson and Spotlight by Danny and Kristin Hayes. Then we will reveal our destination and caravan out on the town. Bring $10 for cover.

Spotlight Spectacular. Thank you to everyone who participated in our evening of spotlight dances. All of the performances were a big hit! Talk to your instructor about putting together a spotlight of your own.

Upcoming Schedule. The studio will be Closed Friday July 3rd for the Holiday and Friday July 10th, as the entire staff travels to Chicago to compete professionally in the National Fred Astaire Competition.

"Dancing Through Life" - The Worthington Chorus If you need something to do this Father's Day weekend, go to The Worthington Chorus' show "An Evening with the Stephens - The Music of Stephen Schwartz and Stephen Sondheim." Our students, Dianna Williams and Rick Moledor will be dancing on stage as the men of The Worthington Chorus sing "Dancing Through Life" from the musical Wicked.

Dianna and Rick competed as an amateur couple this past weekend at Team Match and received Honors for their East Coast Swing. See them dance it again!

The Chorus' performances are this Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2:30pm. Tickets are $12 at the door. You can find out more information about the show at www.worthingtonchorus.com.

Summer Festival. Its Festival Time!! Our theme is this season revolves around poker. For each lesson you take or each payment of $250 you will receive one card for your poker hand. For each guest you bring in you will receive 2 cards! We will be dealing Friday night at the party, so be sure to come and play! Last week we had an exciting game with Audra and Travis Garrison holding the winning hand - good for one bonus lesson! Congrats!

Recent Events. Thank you to everyone who participated in the First Ever Regional Ballroom Bootcamp hosted by Eric Luna, Georgia Ambarian and Cher Rutherford! The event was a huge success! Each of the coaches had something unique to offer, which when combined, took all of our dancing to a higher level.

Anyone who was able to take a private or group coaching session with Georgia Ambarian will tell you not only what an amazing instructor she is but also what an amazing energy she brings to the room! We were very lucky to have her in our studio, so ask your fellow students about their experience!

Group Class. This week was the First in a Series of Fox Trot group lessons taught by Jennifer! The Bronze Class this Tuesday and Thursday is the Fox Trot. Wednesday night is the Newcomer Class, a great Group for anyone learning the basics of Ballroom Dance and a fun practice for any level student! This Friday we will host a Group Lesson at 7:45 and Spotlight Spectacular Potluck Party till 9:30. Please sign up at the studio to bring your favorite treat or dish for this Friday night. Night on the Town and Trophy Ball. Thanks to everyone who participated in our Night Out last Friday and Trophy Ball on Sunday. Both events were a great success! We will be planning another Night on the Town soon, so stay tuned for more details!

Group Class. This week was the Third in a Series of Rumba group lessons taught by JJ! The Bronze Class this Tuesday and Thursday is the Rumba. Wednesday night is the Newcomer Class, a great Group for anyone learning the basics of Ballroom Dance and a fun practice for any level student! This Friday we will host a Group Lesson at7:45 and Party till 9:30. We will have three spotlight performances this Friday. Two wedding couples will give us a preview of the dance they have prepared for their wedding, Erin and Tony Utrup, and Carrie and Chad Carducci. Mary Francis Curtis will be performing a dramatic Tango with her instructor Daniel Tackett. Coming up on June 12^th, we will be hosting a Spotlight Spectacular where the entire evening will be filled with wonderful student spotlight performances. Trophy Ball. Who wouldn't want to spend a Sunday afternoon at a Country Club with friends dressed up dancing?!?!?!? We would like to invite you to attend with us the Columbus Region's Trophy Ball this Sunday from 1-6:30pm at the Little Bear Golf Club. Tickets are $50/ person or $90/ couple, so pair yourselves up and join the fun! Trophy Ball is an annual event where Fred Astaire Students are awarded Certificates and Plaques for testing out of various levels of dance. There will be many social dances, student performances, and a professional show by Travis Manero and Kristin Dobson *the regional open rhythm champions*. Dinner is included and attire is formal. If you are interested in joining us, tickets are available at the studio.

Night on the Town. Tonight we have an exciting evening planned for you! Meet us here at 7:45pm for a fun Swing Dance Lesson. Group Class. This week was the Last in a Series of Tango group lessons taught by Daniel Tackett! Next week will be the First Waltz Lesson taught by Kate Florkowski. The Bronze Class this week is Cha Cha. Wednesday night, Kate taught the Newcomer Class. What a great group this week.a mix of brand new and more advanced students made this past group lesson fun and very productive! Ladies and Gents,

Regionals! This weekend our competition team of Sandy Nelson, Heidi Reed and Kate Johnson will be travelling to Mentor, Ohio to compete at the first Ohio Regional Competition of 2009! We will be travelling with some terrific support as Pat Wedge, Paula Scott, Steve Miller and Julie Lapine along with friends and family, join us as cheering spectators. All of your instructors will be competing as well in the professional divisions this weekend!

Competition Spotlight Party. The party this week will feature a variety of spotlights performed by each of the amateur competitors and each of the professional competitors. Please come and cheer on our competitors as we send them off to represent Columbus Northwest!!!

Dancing with the Stars. The first episode of the new season of Dancing with the Stars debuted on Monday! If you missed it, you can view the episode online from ABC 's DWTS website. Each of the stars performed a Waltz or Cha Cha this week. Watch next Monday as the Stars perform their second dance and on Tuesday, one will be eliminated! Ladies and Gents,

What a Showing! This past Sunday we took a team of nine strong competitors and over a dozen spectators to Simply Dancing's Ballroom Competition...and ROCKED IT!!!!! Our team consisted of Audra and Travis Garrison, Dianna W, Ron Grabowski, Rick Moledor, Paula Scott, Sandy Nelson, Mike Koenig and Leslie McBride! All of our competitors placed, with many First Place Awards! We are compiling pictures for our website, so please bring in any you would like to share.

Coaching. The Judge at the competition on Sunday, Mr. Larry May will be in the studio this Wednesday and only has one session still available at 6:15! Call the studio immediately if you are interested in taking a lesson with the Legendary Larry May.

Regionals! Gearing up for our next competition in just under two weeks are Sandy Nelson, Kate Johnson and Heidi Reed! Your instructors will be competing as well in some of the Professional Divisions.

Dancing With the Stars. Starting next Monday night, Dancing with the Stars is back on TV! Tune in and vote for Tony Dovolani, one of our finest Fred Astaire Coaches!

Friday Party. This Friday we will have spotlight performances by Larry Anderson, Dianna W and Rick Moledor!

Competition Time! This Sunday we are excited to be a part of Simply Dancing's Ballroom Competition. We have a strong competition team assembled including Audra and Travis Garrison, Dianna W, Ron Grabowski, Rick Moledor, Paula Scott, Sandy Nelson, Mike Koenig and Leslie McBride! If you would like to come as a spectator and cheer on our competitors, tickets are $10 at the door. The competition will begin at 2 pm this Sunday at 107 North Court Street in Circleville OH.

Coaching The Judge at the competition on Sunday will be none other than Mr. Larry May. We are lucky enough to have him in as a coach next Wednesday following the competition. What a great opportunity, not only for our competitors, but for anyone interested in improving their dancing.

We have had the pleasure of hosting Larry at our studio in the past, and ask anyone who has been able to work with him... you will see immediate improvement! We have a sign up sheet at the front desk, so ask an instructor how to reserve a lesson.

Mardi Gras Craziness! If you missed the last Friday Night Party you missed some craziness! Kate's Mardi Gras Merengue Square Dance was a one of a kind experience that kicked off the night with a bang. The bead toss that followed was fun as everyone attempted to win the most bead necklaces. But the most memorable part of the night occurred after most of you had already taken off for the evening..as Kate sliced an extra piece of King Cake and found.the baby! Thanks to Sharon Ramsay for bringing in the King Cake, which put her in first place in the bead competition earning her a Bonus Lesson. Congratulations!

Friday Party. This Friday we will have a preview from our upcoming competitors, each dancing a spotlight dance at the Party. You won't want to miss these performances!

Mardi Gras!

Ladies and Gents,

Mardi Gras Party this Friday! Wear some Gold, Purple and Green to celebrate the Mardi Gras with us this Friday! We'll have games,  beads and King Cake. so come prepared for a night of crazy fun!!!

Competition! The first Ohio Regional event of the year will take place on Sunday, March 15th in Mentor, Ohio . We are excited to announce that our competition team includes Sandy Nelson and Kate Johnson! We will have support from Steve Miller, Pat Wedge, Paula Scott and Julie Lapine as spectators for the event.

In just over a week we will be competing in the Mini-Comp in Circleville. We are thrilled to have a competition team including Ron Grabowski,  Mike Koenig, Rick Moledor, Dianna and Sandy Nelson as well as Audra and Travis Garrison, Leslie McBride and Paula Scott who are making their competition debut! If you would like to come and cheer on our competitors, tickets are just $10 at the door.

Date2Remember. The Date Auction held by the Columbus Young Professionals Club raised a whomping $25,000+ for Charity!!!! Daniel Tackett and Kate Florkowski were auctioned off as a Double Date including dance lessons and dinner at Morton's. We would like to thank those of  you who supported the event including, Pat Wedge, Paula Scott, Kate Johnson and Dana Lintner.

We will also be participating in a Mini-Comp March 1st in Circleville. It is a wonderful way
to prepare for the Ohio Regional and if you are doing both you can save money as well! We have

Rose Lykins performed a fun Fox Trot, Michael Creamer danced a dramatic Tango and Leslie McBride seduced everyone with her sultry Rumba. We're already looking forward to next year's party!!!

Wednesday night, Jennifer will be teaching the Newcomer Class, a great Group for anyone learning the basics of Ballroom Dance and a fun practice for any level student! This Friday night we will back to our normal Group Lesson and Party. There will be No Saturday Fitness this week.

Kidzapalooza. This Saturday we will be a part of the Kidzapalooza Extravaganza! We would love to have you come along and dance with us to represent Fred Astaire Dance Studios. The event takes place at Veterans Memorial from 10am to 5pm.

Black Tie Party

Ladies and Gents,

Black Tie Party. Come one, come all to our New Year Celebration - Black Tie Party - this Saturday from 7-9pm !!! If you haven't been in for a while it is the perfect time to come in for some dancing and if you are new it's a great chance to meet some other dancers. So, dress up in your most impressive attire, have a great time dancing to the music and be entertained by some fabulous spotlight dance performances by your fellow students. We will serve a variety of hors deurves and drinks for the evening. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm!!

Chantal LeClerc. We were thrilled to have Chantal LeClerc in our studio for coaching this past Monday. Her group lesson on Latin Hip Movement was a huge hit and it certainly made an immediate impact on how everyone in the class was able to move! Impressive! Many students spent time with Chantal in Private Coaching Sessions as well, taking advantage of her extensive knowledge and experience. All of your instructors also spent time with her working on various dances and techniques, so be sure to work in a lesson with one or all of them while the training is hot and fresh!

Tis' The Season to be Jolly!

Ladies and Gents,

Festival. We are in the LAST WEEK of FESTIVAL !! You can continue to collect points through December 19th , then cash them in for Bonus Lessons, Coaching Lessons & Gift Certificates. You will be rewarded with points for all of the different ways that you participate at the studio. Everything from taking a Dance Lesson and coming to a Group Lesson or Party, to Bringing in a Guest, Dancing a Spotlight Performance, and Enrolling in Competition will be rewarded with points. Ask any instructor to find out how many points you have accumulated!

Friday Party. Last Friday's Party was upbeat yet bittersweet. For those of you who have not heard, Friday was Brian Cantrell's last day with us at the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire Dance Studio. While we are sad to see him go, we wish him the best as he transitions to instructing at our neighboring Fred Astaire in Westerville and we look forward to having him return as a guest instructor ifrom time to time!

Friday night we also played a round of Scotch, Whiskey, Rye with Leslie McBride's guest for the night Jack Millman winning not only the game, but also winning the raffle for a Free Lesson! Congrats! We saw some terrific spotlight dances thanks to Pat Wedge, Audra & Travis Garrison, and Larry Anderson.

This Friday will be our Holiday Cookie Party, so please bring your favorite Holiday Cookies and we will provide milk, hot chocolate, coffee and tea. We will have more Holiday Spotlight Performances by Ron Grabowski with Kate, Sandy Nelson with Kate, and a debut performance by Sue & Skip Musheno!

Holiday Season. It's a busy time with Christmas coming next week ! Please schedule your lessons in advance to avoid any confusion. We will be Closed on Christmas Day and will have No Party Friday Dec. 26 th . We will resume with a party the following Friday January 2 nd and will be hosting our Annual Black Tie Party on Saturday January 10th, more details to come.

Coaching. Wednesday Dec. 17 th , Nationally certified Judge and Scrutineer Mr. Larry May will be here for personal coaching sessions.

Kicking off the new year on Monday Jan 5 th , 7 Time Undefeated Canadian 10 Dance Champion, Coach & Choreographer Ms. Chantal LeClerc will be at the Columbus Northwest studio for personal coaching as well as a group class at 8:30pm for Latin technique & hip movement.

Festivities Have Begun!!

Ladies and Gents,

Festival. We are in the third week of our Holiday Shopping Festival!! It will last one more week through December 19^th. You will be rewarded with points for all of the different ways that you participate at the studio. Everything from taking a Dance Lesson and coming to a Group Lesson or Party, to Bringing in a Guest, Dancing a Spotlight Performance, and Enrolling in Competition will be rewarded with points. As you accumulate points, you will be able to cash them in for Bonus Lessons, Coaching Lessons & Gift Certificates! Ask any instructor for details.

Friday Party. Last Friday's Party was a blast! You really missed out if you weren't here..everyone who attended the party actually got to throw snowballs at Daniel and JJ!!!! By snowballs I mean balled up socks (clean), but that was just as fun J. Tickets were awarded for every snowball that hit one of the guys and at the end of the night we raffled a free private lesson - congratulations to Skip Musheno!

Make sure you're here this Friday Night as we will continue to play more holiday games and have more free raffles! We will also have a night full of some terrific spotlight holiday performances by Pat Wedge with Brian Cantrell, Audra and Travis Garrison, and Larry Anderson with Kate Florkowski.

Group Class. Monday was the first class in a series of Rumba Classes taught by Katherine Florkowski. Kate also taught the Tuesday Bronze Class - Samba had everyone glowing - Literally! There will be NOThursday Bronze Class as we will be hosting a group lesson for the Columbus Young Professionals Club. Wednesday night, Kate will be teaching the Newcomer Class, a great Group for anyone learning the basics of Ballroom Dance or a fun practice for any level student! Something else to note, the Saturday Fitness Class hasmoved to 10:00am .

Thank You. We would like to thank all of the students who performed with us at The Women's Expo last Sunday. We had the stage for 30 minutes and performed a medley of Swing, Rumba and Cha Cha. Sandy Nelson, Mary Jean Ferrari and Dianna W. were on stage nearly the entire 30 minutes! Dianna and Daniel performed their Showcase Number and Ken Ferrari cheered us on! Thanks again!

Good afternoon everybody! You can tell by the newsletter getting out on a Wednesday that Kate was sick the beginning of this week, leaving me to do this one on my own. Boy, am I spoiled!

Thanks to all of you that were able to be a part of the Dance Marathon here at Fred Astaire Columbus Northwest over the holiday weekend. A very special thanks to Pat Wedge for calling in at 3:30am to check on us and to Sandy Miller for bringing in a bag of delicious pumpkin muffins at her 5:30am lesson.

Group Class. Next week's Monday Social Class will be the first in a series of Rumba Classes taught by Katherine Florkowski. Thursday's Bronze Class will be West Coast Swing Appearance, taught by Katherine as well. I know some of you heard that there was no group class this Thursday, but unfortunately I had the dates mixed up and it is next Thursday December 11^th that there will be no group class.

Wednesday night, Kate will be teaching the Newcomer Class, a great Group for anyone learning the basics of Ballroom Dance or a fun practice for and level student! Something else to note, the Saturday Fitness Class has Officially (that means I said so) moved to 10:00am

Want to perform? The Columbus Northwest dance studio is teaming with the other Columbus area Fred Astaire studios to host an exhibit at The Women's Expo will be held this Saturday and Sunday, December 6-7, 2008, at the Ohio Expo Center. The Columbus Northwest team will be there this Sunday Dec. 7^th from 11am till 1:30pm and was asked to perform a dance demonstration at 12:30pm. We would love to show you guys off! We would like to get as many volunteers as possible of all levels & dance experience. All students that perform will get spotlight performance points for festival! At the same time there will be over 250 vendors will be on site featuring products and exhibits on women's lifestyles, careers, household goods, arts, entertainment and more. Thanksgiving Already!

It is hard to believe that its already nearing the end of November!!! The holidays are near, and that means great fun here at Fred Astaire Dance Studio!!!

Dance Marathon.
For most businesses this is a short week, but here at Fred Astaire we welcome you to come and dance throughout the weekend (except for Thursday.stay home and eat turkey!) What better time to come dance off that delicious Thanksgiving Meal than Friday and Saturday! We will be hosting a Black Friday Dance Marathon to help you burn off the stress of your early morning bargain hunts as well as some of that Thanksgiving dinner to make room for the leftovers! It all kicks off at 2:30pm Friday afternoon and will last through the night until 2:30pm Saturday afternoon. The Marathon lessons can be purchased at a specially discounted lesson rate or you can simply utilize the lessons you have already paid for. You can take a lesson with Daniel Tackett, Brian Cantrell, or JJ Lapine. and with these special rates; why not dance with all 3!!! We have sign-up sheets at the studio for you to reserve times. Because of the Marathon , there will be No Friday Night Party this week and No Saturday Fitness Class, however we may incorporate a naptime.

Festival.

Friday Party.
Last Friday was exciting to say the least! Kate's Merengue Class got everyone pumped up for a night out. During an abbreviated party, Larry Anderson performed an entertaining Rumba with instructor Kate Florkowski before we headed 'Out on the Town'. The destination turned out to be a wash do to far too many people already packing the venue to even entertain the idea of dancing. Some students called it a night, others went scouting around for another venue. After a little party hopping, most of us met up shortly thereafter and danced the night away at LaScala in Dublin . We made quite a scene, as Mr. Anderson had an entire section of the dining area cleared so that we had a nice dance floor! A fun three piece band, HatTrick, played a nice selection of music full of Swing, Rumba and Fox Trot. A Big Thank you to everyone who participated! .Again, there will be No Friday Night Party this week because of the Dance Marathon.

Group Class.
This week's Monday Social Class was the third in a series of Hustle Classes taught by Jennifer Hiser. Jennifer will wrap up the Hustle Series next Monday and we will prepare for our next dance, the Rumba. Tonight's Bronze Class will be Cha Cha Patterns, taught by Jennifer Hiser and naturally, there will be No Bronze Class this Thursday. Wednesday night, Kate will be teaching the Newcomer Class, a great Group for anyone learning the basics of Ballroom Dance or a fun practive for and level student! .Again, there will be No Saturday Fitness Class this week because of the Dance Marathon.

Ohio Star Ball.
This past weekend, one of the most famous competitions in the world of ballroom dance took place in our very own Columbus Ohio . Fred Astaire had quite a showing!!!! Jennifer Hiser & Adam Maynard, competed in the American Rhythm Rising Star where couples from Fred Astaire placed 3rd and 4th in the division! In the Open American Rhythm Division, Hayk Arshakian & Albina Habrle placed in the SemiFinals. In the Open American Smooth Division, Mikhail Zharinov & Galina Detkina placed 6th in the Finals and 1st in the Smooth Showdance Division!!! Look for them on America 's Ballroom Challenge in February. It's a performance you won't want to miss!!!!!

Last Saturday we were thrilled to have Travis Manero & Kristin Dobson in our studio for a Saturday Morning Dance Camp! Thanks to all of you that attended. The response from you was great as Travis made the segments entertaining and digestible while elevating your dancing. Travis and Kristin, from Fred Astaire in Warren Ohio, were also competitors in the American Rhythm at the Ohio Star Ball. It was great to have them both in the studio at the same time! We plan to have them back early next year; we'll let you know as soon as we set a date!

Mr. Travis Manero & his partner Ms. Kristin Dobson will be in the Columbus Northwest Studio tomorrow morning! That's right Saturday, November 22nd. There will be a group class from 10:00am to 11:30am for only $30 per person or $45 for a couple. We'll work on some aspects of both Rhythm & Smooth dancing and, YES the staff will be in the group class working with you.

Gearing Up for Winter!

CONGRATULATIONS PERFORMERS!!!!! Fantastic Job to everyone who participated in this past Sunday's 'Dance For Me' benefit showcase! The show was a great success and we had a great time every step of the way... from working on the routines and polishing steps, to picking out costumes and applying false eyelashes. Friday Party. These Friday night parties are really taking off! We had a great showing last Friday. We are glad to see some fun new faces and excited to welcome back some familiar ones. The spotlight dances were lots of fun. Thank you to Liz Kolberg, Sharon Ramsay and Rose Lykins for putting on some great numbers! Its wonderful to show off what talented students we have!!!!

Start planning now for this Friday.as we will be bringing back our 'Out on the Town' Party!!!! Fall Festivities!

It sure got cold fast!!! Now's the time to get warmed up with some HOT Mambo!

Friday Party. If you weren't here last Friday night you sure missed a fun party! Kate's West Coast Swing class got everyone in the mood for a groovy Friday night. We are glad to see some fun new faces and excited to welcome back some familiar ones. Jack and Dana's spotlight dance was impressive, creating much awe and applause as they danced the number they are preparing for this Sunday's Showcase.

This Friday night we have a whirlwind of Spotlight Perfomances. Liz Kolberg and Rose Lykins will be making their debut! Liz dancing a Rumba with JJ Lapine and Rose dancing a Single Rhythm Swing with Daniel Tackett. Michael Creamer will be performing his signature dance, the Tango, with Kate Florkowski and Sharon Ramsay will be giving us a preview performance of her ChaCha routine that she will be dancing with Brian Cantrell this Sunday at the Showcase.

This Sunday, November 16th we need your support! The Columbus Northwest studio along with the other Columbus Area Fred Astaire Dance Studios will be combining their efforts to help raise money for the United Cerebral Palsy of Central Ohio. We are performing a benefit showcase 'Dance For Me' at the King Arts Complex. There is seating for 440 people and we would love to sell out as all of the proceeds raised go directly to UCP of Central Ohio. So please get your tickets now! Forget Me Not!

Ladies and Gents, Good Times are back.and there's a lot of catching up to do!!

Just a week ago, our very own Pat Wedge made her debut appearance in the Fred Astaire National Dancesport Championships in sunny Orlando, Florida!!! She made us all proud competing in a variety of dances including Tango, Bolero and Merengue and best of all taking "center stage" performing her beautiful c horeographed routine with instructor Brian Cantrell . Pat received some good scores placing as a Runner-Up in multiple categories. Way To Go Pat!!!!!!!!!!

Also making the journey to Disney to compete were Katherine Florkowski , Daniel Tackett and Jennifer Hiser . Kate and Brian competed in the Professional Closed American Smooth Division while Jennifer and Daniel competed in the Closed American Rhythm Division . A determined and dedicated Jennifer also competed with her professional partner Adam Maynard in both the American Rhythm Rising Star and Open Categories . Somehow all of Jen's entries were placed back to back and she danced all 14 dances in a row! What a trooper! Thanks to all of the instructors for representing our studio at the Fred Astaire National Competition! We will have photos from the competition up soon, but in the mean time, below is a note From Pat about her experience:

Daniel, I just want to say THANK YOU. I can only say that the opportunity
to see the caliber of dancing and the ambiance of BALL ROOM, far exceeded
my expectations. To be surrounded by people with the passion to dance,
from the very young to the older folks like me, is awesome. The glitter
of the costumes, the laughter and fun, the excitement of call backs and the
awareness of being a small part of something so exciting was breath taking.
The only thing that could have made it better is if there had been more of
my peers to share the experience with me. You, Brian, Jennifer and Kate
were all there supporting me and I thank you for that. Watching the
professionals dance on Friday night was exciting. And then, when I
thought it couldn't get better, we had Jonathan Roberts, Anna Trubenskaya,
Elena Grinenko and Jesse DeSoto (all professionals from Dancing with the
Stars) dance for us on Saturday as part of the Awards Banquet Show. I can
only hope that we can pull together a TEAM from COLUMBUS NORTHWEST to go to Las Vegas in the spring. If we start planning now, maybe we can pull it
off. The more that participate, the more fun it will be....

Ladies and Gents,

Festival is coming to an end and we're making a party out of it! A tailgate party that is!! Its a pot luck so bring a dish that goes along with the theme and be ready for some fun. We'll be playing games to earn tickets for a great prize at the end of the party. Tonights party will also have spotlight dances featuring students of Jennifer Hiser. Jim & Kathy Sivard will be dancing a waltz and Aaron Levensailor & Allison Wittman will dance a tango, so be sure to come cheer them on!

As festival comes to a close, don't forget to take advantage of the various incentives. It all closes up on Saturday @ 3:30pm.

Don't forget that the Columbus Area Fred Astaire Dance Studios will be combing their efforts to help raise money for the United Cerebral Palsy of Central Ohio by performing a benefit showcase at the King Arts Complex on Sunday November 16 th . Ladies and Gents,

I hope that this message finds everyone doing well and in good health. Good news is that the power is on here at the studio! So, needless to say if yours is still off, its a great place to spend some time with the lights on. ;) Better still, it's festival time and the fun has just begun with a couple of VERY competitive Friday night party games. The week one winners were Liz Kolberg & Rick Moledor and the second week winners were Sue Musheno & Michael Creamer. Congratulations to all of you. We're certainly looking forward to this Fridays competition. Personally, I think we should be video taping this stuff! In honor of Jim Tressel, the ladies have dubbed this Friday a "Vest Party". If you've got a sweater vest, by all means wear it. For those who don't, any vest will do. Best dressed vest will win a prize!

In other very important news, the Columbus Area Fred Astaire Dance Studios will be combing their efforts to help raise money for the United Cerebral Palsy of Central Ohio by performing a benefit showcase at the King Arts Complex on Sunday, November 16th. We need all the support we can get from our students and being a key organizer of this event I certainly want to show off every one of the Columbus Northwest students that we can! So, please stop in to talk with me and get some information on how you can be a part of this extraordinary event!

We'd also like to extend a special thanks to Sandy Nelson and Rick Moledor for coming out to the NBC 4 Health & Fitness Expo to help put on a demonstration this past Sunday.

Schedule Change: Effective Monday September 29th, the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire Dance Studio will be adjusting the lesson times to the new schedule listed below and posted throughout the studio. The length of the lessons will not change, only the times that they may be scheduled.

Here it is September already and Football is in the air. Here at the studio, folks are coming back from their busy summer travels and making their way in to dance. It's nice to see those friendly faces that have been away for a while.

There are some wonderful events coming up with the Columbus Northwest studio right now! For starters its Festival and this one is going to be football themed or to be more specific Buckeye themed! For those of you that are new to the idea of festival, it is a time when we celebrate, play games and have incentives to show appreciation for our students and their involvement with the Columbus Northwest dance studio. Tonight's party theme is Scarlet & Grey, so come dressed appropriately.

Your Teacher of the Week last week was Ms. Jennifer Hiser and this week was Ms. Kathryn Florkowski so it sound like the gentlemen need to get their butts in gear here...

The Ohio Regional Team Match Competition is coming up fast and will take place in Mentor, OH Sunday October 5 th . HELLO EVERYBODY!

I can't tell you how excited I am with all that is going on with the Columbus Northwest studio right now! Good people + good parties = good times!! Tonight we'll be hosting our regular Friday night studio party with a couple of spotlight performances by students of Katherine Florkowski. Sandy Nelson & Steve Miller will perform a Fox Trot and Mr. Larry Anderson will perform a Cha Cha with Katherine herself.

In case you haven't heard the wonderful news, Ms. Katherine Flokowski is now working full time at the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire Dance Studio! I know that should make a lot of he students happy given that he schedule is always so tight.

Tomorrow, Saturday August 2nd we will be hosting a pre-comp "Itty Bitty Mini-Comp" . This competition will be held here in the studio at 12pm and will be judge by the legendary Mr. George Hendricks. There will be some time set aside for open dancing as well as and following the competition Mr. Hendricks himself will be teaching two group classes. At 2pm Smooth & at 2:45pm Rhythm. If you are interested in coming as a spectator the cost is $5 or your favorite dish. We'll be setting up the front desk for the food and drinks.

Your Teacher of the Week was Mr. Brian Cantrell who also managed to take top enrollment teacher in the nation for week 28 of this year.

I want to remind you again of the up and coming Ohio Regional Competition on August 22nd & 23rd . We had a huge group at the last regional comp and are looking forward to showing you all off again at this one! It should be a fantastic competition for a number of reasons. First, its once again right here in Columbus! Second, it will be two days long with Solos, Showcases and Pro Competition all on Friday evening and ProAm competition on Saturday with the finale being a performance from two of the judges, none other than Mr. Eric Luna & Ms. Georgia Ambarian! Mr. Luna & Ms. Ambarian are United States National Theatrical Champions, Seven Time National Fred Astaire Dance Studios Theater Arts Champions, World Cabaret Champions Bronze Medal 2006 British Invitational (Blackpool) and will undoubtedly leave your jaw dropped to the floor in amazment with performances unlike anything you can imagine! To top it off the following Monday August 25th Mr. Eric Luna will be here at the Columbus Northwest studio for private coaching sessions!!

There's a Party Over Here!

Ladies and Gents,

Thats right! The party is over here... For those of you that haven't heard, this Friday July 18th, the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire Dance Studio will be hosting a HUGE PARTY. With the support of our students we were able to win a guest competition between the Fred Astaire Dance Studios in the Columbus area and as the winners we will have the pleasure of all of the Columbus area Fred Astaire Dance Instructors coming to help with the party. That means we'll have nearly 20 Instructors in here for one wild evening of dance. We'll also have a dance demonstration by our very own Jennifer Hiser & Adam Maynard from the east studio as well as snacks & drinks and to top it all off, Platinum Music Productions will be providing a DJ for the whole event. For those of you who were at the MACY'S event, it's the same DJ and he's fantastic! We'll kick things off with a 8pm with a group lesson from this weeks Teacher of the Week, Mr. Brian Cantrell and roll right into the party from there. If you have groups & parties on the books, there is no extra charge, otherwise its just $5 a person at the front desk.

In other exciting news, Festival is finished and the prizes are being revealed so if you have your name on a prize, come and get it! So far, two of three have been winners. Not too shabby. Speaking of not too shabby, if you haven't heard or weren't here to witness, Mr. Rick Moledor managed to make it to our studio Mix & Match Competition every week and in the process remained the first and only Undefeated Champion of our competition series. Well done Mr. Moledor !

We'll soon be posting more competition photos on the website from the Ohio Regional Team Match Competition in Fairlawn, Ohio where Ms. Pat Wedge and Ms. Sandy Nelson shined! Brian and I had a wonderful time dancing those ladies around the competition floor and they did a great job representing the Columbus Northwest studio. We'll also add a couple of photos from this past weekend at the Astaire Awards Championships, where Katherine and I danced in the Closed Rhythm Division (Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing & Mambo) and Katherine and Dustin Jones of the Youngstown, OH Fred Astaire Dance Studio danced in the Closed Smooth Division (Waltz, Tango, Fox Trot & Viennese Waltz). Might I add that Katherine and Dustin looked fantastic, especially considering that their first time dancing together was about 2 hours before they competed!

With all of this talk of competition, we'd better remind you all of the up and coming competitions. August 2 nd , we'll the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire will be hosting our Itty Bitty Mini Comp as a warm-up for the Ohio Regional Competition . The Itty Bitty Mini Comp will be judged by the one and only Mr. George Hendricks . If you are interested, you may also be able to take some private coaching with Mr. Hendricks the following day so that you can get some direct insight into how best to improve your dancing from that point and be better prepared for the Ohio Regional Competition on August 22 nd & 23 rd . This should be a fantastic competition for a number of reasons. First, once again, it is right here in Columbus! Fish, Tikis, Hula & Competition ?

Ladies and Gents,

Good afternoon everybody! I'm having a fantastic day and I hope you're having the same.

We're into the third week of Festival and having a great time with it. Really though, how can you go wrong with flying fish, tiki heads and hula girls?? Once again this Friday we'll be hosting a Mix & Match Competition for students of the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire Dance Studio. This week the dances are Waltz & Merengue and for the first time in the series, our current undefeated champion, Mr. Rick Moledor will be unable to compete due to a prior engagement. Fellas, we certainly need as many of you as possible to enter so the ladies have someone to dance with. There will be prizes awarded for 3 rd , 2 nd & 1 st place. If you are at the party and not participating in the competition we'd appreciate your help by judging.

Don't forget that festival is a terrific time to pay on balances, competitions, coaching, dance attire and trips. You'll have a chance to win some great prizes in the process!

Also during the June Festival the Columbus Northwest Studio will be competing with the other Columbus Region Fred Astaire Dance Studios in a Guest Competition to see which studio can bring in the most guests. We need everyones help to pull this off! The wining studio will host a party on Friday July 18 th for their participating students and the instructors from the other studios will all come to help service the party. That means we could have a party with about 20 instructors present! However, this also means that should we not win, we would not have a party that night. The good news is that Jack Garber, Aaron Stout, Sandy Nelson & Pat Wedge have all helped with guests so far, with Pat leading the pack with 9 guests so far. Way to go Pat!

Thanks to all of you who participated in the coaching sessions with Mrs. Jeannie Penatello. She had a wonderful time and was very pleased with the studio, students and staff and is looking forward to coming back to Columbus Northwest.

Dancing in the Rain?

What a great day to be at the studio dancing! Not too much else to do with the rain pouring down like it is.

We're into the first week of Festival and ready to let the good times roll! Friday we'll be hosting a Mix & Match Competition for students of the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire Dance Studio. We'll continue to have these Mix & Match Competitions every Friday through June with new dances every week. This week is Tango & Cha Cha. We currently have 2 Guys & 4 Ladies signed up. You have until the studio closes Thursday night to sign up. There will be prizes awarded for 3rd, 2nd & 1st place. If you are at the party and not participating in the competition we'd appreciate your help judging. Along with the competition this Friday, Mr. Cole Bryant & Ms. Lauren Bonner will debut their soon to be wedding dance in a spotlight performance at our party, so be sure to come out and enjoy!

Amidst all the excitement, Mrs. Jeannie Penatello will be here next week on Tuesday June 10 th & Wednesday June 11 th , for personal coaching sessions along with limited group sessions on Smooth & Rhythm dancing. I'd like to give you little background as to how fortunate we are to have her here for coaching; a Fred Astaire National Examiner of all levels of Certification in both American & International styles, Mrs Penatello is renown for her training and execution of dance techniques. Having been an undefeated champion of many titles, including 3 years as US Smooth & Rhythm Champion and at the same time Open to the World America's Cup Champion . We encourage you to take full advantage of every moment you can to train with her. Mrs Penatello's schedule is filling up fast. It's not too often that we get a female coach in and especially a coach of her caliber!

Ladies and Gents,

Hope you are all having a wonderful day!

Busy as usual and getting ready for Festival to begin along with a few competitions. First just a quick reminder that tonight we will be hosting a group lesson for the Columbus Young Professionals Club and there will be no regular classes after 8pm tonight.

However, Macy's bridal registry once again has extended an invitation to the Columbus Northwest dance studio to perform at one of their events tonight. Thanks to the terrific showing from our students the last time, they were very insistent that they wouldn't work with any other studio. When I said our instructors were all busy, but I would gladly recommend our students she said she would love that. She said, "I've seen your students and I can tell you, I'd rather have your students than most peoples staff." If you are interested in joining, the event kicks off tonight at 5:30pm till 8:30pm . Its a Margarettaville theme and is going to be held at the Macy's at Tuttle Mall, near Panera Bread's entrance. It will be located on the first floor in the Bridal Registry area and best of all the same DJ that we had last time will be there. The more the merrier!

Ladies and Gents,

I hope that everyone is enjoying the fabulous weather we are having! Last Saturday the studio was closed due to a regional staff seminar with the one and only Mr. Jesse DeSoto along with dance training from our very own dance director, Mr. Larry May. We also brought back some new plaques that are up on the wall for our business performance as a studio. THANK YOU STUDENTS & STAFF!!

Also, thanks to the efforts of students whom attended the Fred Astaire Ohio Regional Ballroom Dance Competition bringing me photos and our web developer Ms. Dianna Williams, we now have an updated collection of photos from the competition, including photos of the Amateur, Pro/Am and Profession competition along with the performances put on by judges Hayk Arshakian & Albina Habrle, who recently took 1st place in the Pro Open Rhythm Championship at Fred Astaire's National Cross Country DanceSport Championships in Las Vegas.

Let's try this again...

Last Monday I sat down with every intention of getting this newsletter updated and out and before I could finish I found myself not feeling all that well. Apparently the no sleep, chocolate and coffee diet I'd come to live by finally fell through for me. I spent the entire last week at home with the flu... I'm here to tell you I don't recommend it at all!

In the end, it seems I finally managed to catch my tail so to speak and here I sit with more exciting news about the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire Dance Studio!

First things first, many, many thanks to all of you that enrolled in new lessons, purchased dance wear, competed or came as a spectator at dance competitions. Your combined efforts over the last few weeks of the quarter helped to place the Columbus Northwest Studio as the top studio of 12 for the Ohio Regions Spring Festival with the Canal Winchester & Youngstown dance studios taking second and third.

Continuing the streak, the Ohio Regional Ballroom Dance Competition was a smashing success with a tremendous show of support from the large group of spectators that packed our side of the ballroom. Your cheers screams and clapping go much further than you can imagine. In fact from what I've heard, our group was so loud that you can hear the whole lot of you on the videos that were being filmed on the opposite side of the dance floor. Adam Maynard said it best at the competition when he leaned to me and said, "I love your studio, you guys could have two people on the dance floor and you're still the loudest people in the building". I also want to take a moment to recognize those students that worked their butts off to provide us with a reason to cheer:

I also want to congratulate the Columbus Northwest Staff along with the staff and students of all of the Fred Astaire Dance Studios in the Ohio Region for a job well done.

Be aware though that a few of our competitors have already committed to helping us take top studio at the Ohio Regional Team Match Competition in June. I can't wait to see just how many of you join in to help us bring the Team Match Trophy back from the north region!

Last weekend our very own Jennifer Hiser competed in the Pro Open Rhythm Championship in Las Vegas at the Cross Country DanceSport Championships, one of Fred Astaire's National competitions which is now the second largest ballroom dance competition in the nation with over 11,000 entries! Whats more exciting is that is ALL Fred Astaire Students and Staff making it that large. Jennifer says that it was a wonderful experience with over 20 pro couples in their heat alone. The winners of the Open Rhythm Division was none other than the same two judges from our recent Regional Competition, Hayk Arshakian & Albina Habrle many congratulations to them both!

A little closer to home we found ourselves with a brand new extension to our Columbus Northwest family as April 11^th,2008 welcomed Summer Noel Bennett as the proud new baby girl of Ed & Heather Bennett. Congratulations guys and thank you so much for the photos!

For all of you who've been missing the warm & wonderful Mr. Charlie Penatello, he's coming back very soon! In fact, he will be here the day after Mother's Day, Monday May 12^th.

I remember when I used to write this newsletter called "Good Times". Back when the studio was a little slower and not so much going on. Now its insane! New students coming through the door daily and just a great deal of excitement all around!!

Now, I want to take a moment to recognize the absolutely outstanding staff here at the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire Dance Studio. Our dance director, Mr. Larry May has been helping the instructors polish up their technique in preparation for a very important instructors exam that took place last Saturday with Fred Astaire National Examiner, Mr. George Hendricks . Mr. May and I are extremely proud to tell you that Mr. Brian Cantrell, Ms. Jennifer Hiser & Ms. Kathryn Jayne not only passed their exams, but passed with Honors! Way to go gang!!

The Fred Astaire Ohio Regional Ballroom Dance Competition is fast approaching and the Columbus Northwest Team is well represented with competitors:

Ladies and Gents,

Well, this year is kicking off with something for everyone and I'm doing my best to keep up with it all!

I've updated the online Event Calendar to help keep everyone on track.

This Friday night will be a group class & practice party where we will be featuring a spotlight dance with Jennifer's students, Adam Feuer & Molly Thompson who will be tying the knot in just about a week and a half. Make sure you're here to cheer them on!

Saturday night the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire Dance Studio will play host to The Embers, live oldies rock & roll band. This a band made for dancing by dancers! The cover is just $5 per person at the door. Band starts at 8pm and goes till 11pm.

Mr. Larry May has been busy lining up some terrific coaching opportunities for the Columbus Northwest students. First we'll be bringing in a man who need little introduction, the one and only Mr. Charlie Penatello . Unfortunately we will only have him available for one day of personal coaching next Friday February 29th . However, he will be teaching a dance camp Saturday March 1st here at the studio that is open to anyone that is interested in signing up. There will be 6 classes total consisting of 3 American Smooth sessions & 3 American Rhythm sessions.

Classes start Saturday Morning: 9:30am Waltz 10:15am Tango 11:00am Fox Trot 11:45am -LUNCH BREAK- 12:30pm Mambo 1:15pm Bolero 2:00pm Cha Cha . The size of the classes will be limited and I know that there will be students coming from some of the other studios so please sign up soon!

Just one week after that, Saturday March 8th , Mr. George Hendricks will be at our studio and is currently open for only 5 session. Mr. Hendricks is one of the foremost authorities on dance and for anyone looking to check out of dance levels is a MUST to take a coaching with.

Sunday March 9th will be a small competition in Circleville, OH and if you are dancing at the Ohio Regional this is a great chance for you to get a test run with your dances. It is also a great chance to get your feet wet in a smaller competition if you have never done one before. Please see your instructor or myself to get your entries set!

Mr. Brian Cantrell managed to gather his students support and with little competition has claimed the title as your Teacher of the Week . Nice work Brian!

Next Monday's Social Class , will be the final class for Fox Trot, followed by Tuesday's Bronze Class on Rhythm Footwork .

Great things going on here at the Columbus Northwest Dance Studio!

As many of you know, the one and only Mr. Larry May is our new Dance Director and boy have we been keeping him busy! He's having a great time getting to know all of the new faces and of course enjoys seeing all of the familiar faces as well! Be sure to schedule some time to have get an updated progress check with Mr. May on your next visit.

Have you picked up the January/February issue of C-BUS Magazine? How about the February Issue of Dublin Life Magazine? We've been very fortunate lately with the publicity of our dance studio. As always we are looking for more so if you have any ideas, please be sure to share them! Keep an eye out for your instructors on ABC/FOX as the Columbus Fred Astaire Dance Studios got together for a commercial that is airing on both. Also, yours truly recently recorded a radio commercial for the Columbus Northwest Studio that is playing on The BREW 105.7FM

This Thursday we are hosting a special Valentines Party. The party will start at 8pm and go till about 9:45pm. There will be group lessons taught by Mr. Larry May himself, along with some wine, champagne and light hors d'oeuvres. If you would like to participate, the cost is one guest. If for some reason you cannot find a guest to bring out for some dancing and drinks on Valentines day then the cost is $20 for a single or $30 for a couple.

Ms. Kathryn Jayne has risen to the top, taking the title as your Teacher of the Week . Fantastic job Kathryn Jayne!

Long Time No See

Long time no see...

For those of you that have been coming into the studio recently, you are probably well aware of how busy things have been with the development of the studio.

The most exciting news of which is the new but familiar face we have added to the staff here at the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire. With that, would like you all to extend a very warm welcome to our new Dance Director, the one and only Mr. Larry May!

If you who are still unfamiliar, don't worry, Mr. May will remedy that soon. In the meantime here is a little background for you;

Mr. Larry May began with the Fred Astaire Organization in 1972 in Clearwater, FL. Over the years he has been certified as a Coach, an Adjudicator, a Scrutineer, Chairman of Judges and often presides as an Emcee for ballroom competition. He is also a co-author of Fred Astaire Bronze, Silver & Gold manuals. Best of all though as of last Wednesday January 23^rd, 2008 he added Dance Director of the Columbus Northwest Fred Astaire Dance Studio to that list.

In other news, we highly encourage ALL of you to sign up now for the Ohio Regional Competition that is taking place right here in Columbus, OH. We are looking to build a large and exciting team to show up and represent our studio. We'll also be hosting a special lunch reception at this event for all of our competitors and I'm here to tell you this should be one fantastic gathering! I reserved the largest hospitality suite that they have for the Columbus Northwest Team.

I'm glad to see a lot of people returning, we've certainly missed your smiling faces. The parties have been terrific and the mix of people fantastic. This Friday's party has a theme. We are going to make it a Potluck - FAT FRIDAY - Party in recognition of Mardi Gras. Where there will be an opportunity to win a bonus lessons by bringing a dish, playing games and dancing.

Next Monday night Social Group Class, will be the first of 4 weeks of Group Class for Fox Trot.

This week Ms. Jennifer Hiser has taken the title as your Teacher of the Week. Well done Jennifer!

Important dates to note:

Ohio Regional Competition is coming up April 6^th.

It will take place in Downtown Columbus and there will be about 12 Fred Astaire Dance Studios from around the state competing there. We have all of the information ready for your registration so please see me, Jennifer or Larry May as the entries are due in by March 1st.

Kicking Off 2008

Another busy and exciting week is just about to fly right by and here I am sending out a newsletter on a Friday. I'm sure you're wondering what the reason could be and here it is... I just got off of the phone after having confirmed that tomorrow morning Friday January 11^that about 8:30am myself and the lovely Ms. Kathryn Jayne will be interviewed on FOX 28 live for the 50's Expo that is going on at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. So, be sure to tune in and see how it turns out.

Thank you to all that made it out last Friday night and made our Black Tie Party a wonderful time. Congratulation to Sandy Nelson & Julio Malpica, the winners of Friday nights round of the infamous "Scotch, Whiskey, Rye "(the dancing game, not the drinking game).

This Friday we'll be having a regular group and party. The group lesson will be Cha Cha as requested by Ms. Heidi Reed and will naturally be taught by her favorite instructor and your Teacher of the Week as we kick of a tremendous year the one and only Mr. Brian Cantrell. Group class starts at 8pm and the party follows at 8:45pm .

Happy Holidays Ladies and Gents,

Tonight is the night! Black Tie Party tonight January 4th, 2008 . This is the night we will open your gift boxes to see what you may have won. We'll also be sipping some Wine & Champagne while we dance the night away enjoying each others company. There will be food and fun for sure and of course we'll be playing the infamous "Scotch, Whiskey, Rye " (the dancing game, not the drinking game). So, please be sure to come out and join in the fun. There is no group class, festivities begin at 8pm and go till 10pm.

Mr. Brian Cantrell finished out the last week of 2007 as your Teacher of the Week.
Monday although the National Championship Game is on at 8pm , there is still going to be a Group class at 8:45 and it is the first week of SWING!

Good news about the April 6th, 2008 Ohio Regional Competition as well. We're expecting a great showing for our studio as quite a few of you have already shown some initiative and reserved your spots. Please ask your instructor about the "early-bird" incentive. Remember the competition will be right here in downtown Columbus on a Sunday.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Happy Holidays Ladies and Gents,

YES there is a party at the studio tonight! There will be a party the 28th as well with a Black Tie party on January 4th, 2008 . The Black Tie Party is the night we will open your gift boxes to see what you may have won. Festival is coming to an end, so please be sure to wrap it up soon. Tonight we'll have a special presentation for you. Jennifer Hiser will perform with her Open Rhythm Partner, Adam Maynard. So, please be sure to come out and cheer them on.

Good news about the April 6th, 2008 Ohio Regional Competition as well. As of last night the pricing for it was completed and ready for enrollment. Keep in mind that everything spent towards your competition will still help you with the festival incentives. We're expecting a great showing for our studio as the competition will be right here in downtown Columbus on a Sunday.

This past Monday we hosted the CYP Club and about 18 new people signed up for lessons, so please be sure to introduce yourselves as you see the new students making their way in for the first time. Please note that there will not be a Social or Bronze Classes December 24th & 25th nor December 31st. There will however be a Bronze Class January 1st on Paso Doble.

Due to the holidays, the staff is willing to teach on Saturday's and Sunday's as well as Christmas Eve morning, New Years Eve morning and New Years Day evening. So, please sign up now if you would like to make the most of your holiday time and get in some dancing.

Don't forget to tune in to ABC Christmas morning for the Disney Christmas Parade, choreographed by the one and only Mr. Tony Dovolani and see if you see our smiling faces. It all starts at 10am . There were about 100 ballroom couples dancing in front of a stage at the Magic Kingdom while dancers from ABCs Dancing with the Stars performed a spectacular show behind us. We managed to make the front row of dancers, so here's hopin' you'll see us there.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Here it is, the long awaited, much anticipated, misspelled, grammar challenged news letter that keeps us all occupied at work!

Needless to say there is plenty to write about with the time laps that took place since the last news letter. First and foremost, YES there is a party at the studio this Friday December 14th. I'll even take the surprise out of the group lesson that starts at 8pm and let you know that due to your requests Brian is planning to teach some more Salsa moves for you. There will be parties on the 21st and 28th as well with a Black Tie party on January 4th, 2008 .

Congratulations to all of the students that participated in the Holiday Ball Mini-Comp. The competition though packed and a certainly busy was a lot of fun! Our studio was definitely well represented with 12 students competing in 72 different heats. Everyone did a wonderful job and handled themselves with great form on and off the floor. Keep in mind the Ohio Regional Competition is just around the corner and will be right here in downtown Columbus Sunday April 6th, 2008 !

There will not be a Social Class Monday December 17th. From 8pm till close that night the Columbus Northwest studio will be hosting a group lesson/party for CYP Club cypclub.com. That Tuesday the Bronze Class will be Smooth Footwork lead by Kathryn Jayne who, by the way, is also holding tight to the title as your Teacher of the Week. Well done Kathryn Jayne!

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please keep in mind that with the holidays, the schedule is tight and it is important to reserve your time ASAP. If you need to reschedule, you must not forget that we need a minimum 6 hour notice or you will be charged the lesson. Right now we are in the middle of our Happy Holidays Festival. This is definitely the most wonderful time of the year for enrolling in new lessons or paying ahead on future lessons. We will open the gift boxes at the Black Tie party January 4th as we kick off the new year and all the excitement that is yet to come for it!

Speaking of excitement, some of you are aware that there were a few days last week when Kathryn Jayne & myself were absent while Brian and Jennifer stayed here to hold down the ship. Well, we were in Orlando at Disney. What were we up to you might ask? We were participating in the recording of the opening performance of the Disney Christmas Parade, choreographed by the one and only Mr. Tony Dovolani. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

I can tell you that we are very thankful for all of you and the personalities and atmosphere that you bring to our studio!

I would also like to express our thanks for all of you that made time in your schedule to take some coaching with Mr. Charlie Penatello. He was glad to see the quality of students that we have and enjoyed your enthusiasm. Mr. Penatello spent 5 days in the area, 2 days of which he was here at the Columbus Northwest studio. During his stay he managed to teach about 55 lessons andI think everyone that made it to his group class would agree that his liveliness remained in constant form from the first minute to the last! Please be sure to take a little time to go over your experience with Mr. Penatello with your instructor or myself as I would love to bring Mr. & Mrs. Penatello in sometime in the early part of the year.

Monday's first Mambo session was fun and a good foundation to build on. I think that this is going to be a terrific class to finish the year with. I'd also like to mention the entertaining time we had at last night's Bronze Class on Floor Craft! Good Times indeed! I certainly hope that you enjoyed it and found some useful ideas to develop your navigation skills. ;) Next Tuesday the Bronze Class will be Men's & Women's Styling lead by Daniel Tackett & Jennifer Hiser.

Back with a vengeance and holding for the third week in a row, Ms. Kathryn Jayne still holds the title as your Teacher of The Week . Go on with your bad self Kathryn Jayne!

Shakin' Up Your Friday Night

Thank you to everyone that has participated in the Giving Thanks Special that we presented under the new ownership. Congratulations to all of the students that have registered to participate in the final Mini-Comp for the Columbus Region. The competition will take place the evening of Friday, December 7th, 2007. A reminder to all of those that plan to have a fan section with them: Spectator tickets are $15 at the door. Seating is limited and will be on a first come basis so please keep that in mind.

Next Tuesday, the Bronze Class will be Floor Craft lead by Daniel Tackett. This class will go over the ability to navigate around the dance floor without hitting anyone or anything.

In a completely unexpected triumph, Ms. Kathryn Jayne managed to take a three day vacation and still retain the title as your Teacher of The Week . VERY IMPRESSIVE Kathryn Jayne!

Shaking things up this week, the always impressive Mr. Charlie Penatello has been working with a multitude of students and I'd have to say is easily living up to his legendary reputation. For all of you who have had a chance to work with him so far, I would like to thank you for your punctuality, courtesy and attentiveness. These are all things that we are very proud of. Mr. Penatello will be back in our studio Friday, November 16th. Exciting news for those of you who didn't have a chance to work with Charlie yet. He has graciously decided to be our guest teacher for this Fridays Group Class. There will be a cost for this group class of $25. It will begin at 8pm sharp, so please be here a little early, especially if you need to pay for the session. Believe me you do not want to miss this chance. He have had a chance to take a very similar group class with him before and it was a fantastic time!

Ladies and Gents,

Where do I begin?

First things first, I want to remind all of you that are interested in participation with the final Mini-Comp for the Columbus Region that the deadline for entries is this Friday November 9th, 2007. So, please turn in your entries and fees as soon as possible. We have a great showing so far and are excited to see so many people interested in participating. We're really enjoying the active involvement with group classes lately with a great turn out for both Social & Bronze Class. Next Monday is Waltz IV and will be an overview of all of the elements that you have learned with the final emphasis working on how to travel the line of dance. Tonight, November 6th, Bronze Class will be Smooth- Position, Connection & Frame lead by Kathryn Jayne, who took 2nd in the Professional Closed Smooth Division at the last Ohio Regional Competition. To top it all off, Ms. Kathryn Jayne is also your Teacher of The Week. She would like to thank all of you who have been in for lessons and are participating in competition and coaching as you helped her take the teacher of the week title by a landslide! Who's leading this thing anyway? As some of you may be aware, the Fred Astaire - Columbus Northwest Dance Studio is now under new ownership. The new owner is actually yours truly. As a show of appreciation for your loyalty and support as well as an effort to raise some working capital to grow the studio, we are hosting a Giving Thanks Special. This special will run for one week, from Wednesday, November 7th till Wednesday, November 14th. You will be able to purchase an additional 10 lessons at a substantial discount. If you are low or out of lessons, you can't beat this for a way to boost them up and if you are already set for lessons, this is a one time chance to add something additional to your dance program at a low investment. Barely a week from today, Mr. Charlie Penatello will be back in our studio. Wednesday, November 14th & Friday, November 16th Charlie will be hosting private coaching session for our students. We as professionals can't wait to work with him again because we know what he is capable of doing with us. Ladies and Gents,

Moving right along into the autumn and moving fast!

I don't even know where to begin with all of the fantastic things in store for this studio this fall? I think we'll start off with a tremendous THANK YOU to all of you that were able to make it out to the party, especially those of you who came in costume and/or brought a dish for the pot luck!! While there were some very good honorable mentions, the award for Best Costume went to Pat Wedge who came as Mimi from the Drew Carey Show. The Best Dish was awarded to Jessica Nicoletti for her Egg Rolls. We started the evening with an introduction to West Coast Swing but, it seems no real festive party of ours can end without a dance competition lately so; needless to say we ended up playing the always entertaining Scotch, Whiskey, Rye. Well done everyone, but in the end, the last two who managed to remain on the floor were Melinda Gardner and Rick Moledor.

Mr. Brian Cantrell is your Teacher of The Week and proud of it! Honestly, I have to say we're proud of him too.

We are already into the midst of the following week and boy has it been active! Great turn out for both Social & Bronze Class for starters. Keep in mind that next Monday is Waltz III and Tuesday, November 6th, Bronze Class will be Smooth-Position, Connection & Frame lead by Kathryn Jayne.

Only one short week later, Mr. Charlie Penatello will be back in our studio, Wednesday November 14th & Friday November 16th. For those of you who don't know Charlie yet, believe me you do not want to miss this chance. Short and sweet reminder that tonight is the Costume & Pot Luck Party here at the studio.

We certainly hope to see you all participate. There will be awards for Best Costume & Best Dish, don't forget to bring your cameras! If you want to be considered for these competitions you need to be here no later than 9pm so that we have time for voting.

Things to keep in mind:

The web site is almost completed and I have no reservations telling you that it is going to be by far and away the best looking, most sophisticated dance studio site in the state!

The Bronze Class has been planned out for the remainder of the year. Instructors will be rotating the class and featuring some very specific training in each. Tuesday Oct. 30^th will be Understanding Timing with Brian Cantrell and the following Tuesday featuring Smooth Position - Connection & Frame with Kathryn Jayne.

Rockin Team Match

Ladies and Gents,

Busy, Busy, Busy. It's that time of year again. With a great many things going on around us and all of the terrific exposure that dance is experiencing thanks to the Dancing with the Stars (vote for Tony & Jane), we are seeing more and more new faces walking through the door and sharing the experience.

Possibly the most exciting thing I want to share with you is the past weekend's Ohio Regional Fred Astaire Team Match Competition in Cleveland, Ohio. For one reason or another the Columbus Northwest Studio found ourselves with the first time ever experience of having only one student competing. This one student, Mrs. Christina Daniels is also one of the newest students to grace our floor with only 7 private sessions taken and all of them only 3 weeks prior to the competition itself. Christina does have a background in dance, but it is an entirely different aspect as she heads up The American Dance Conservatory teaching ballet and tap as well as various other dances in Ashland, KY. That's right boys & girls, you wanna talk about some commitment, she drives 2.5 hours one way to take lessons at our studio and will take 2 - 3 lessons at a time. Christina may not have had any prior training in Ballroom dance but, let me tell you, she made her presence well known at Team Match! Her very first score was a 94 - Outstanding & from there she Honored her other 9 entries, twice scoring a 96! I could not be more proud (anyone who saw me jumping and shouting as her scores were called knows) of how she handled herself, especially given that she had the added pressure of being the only student from our studio. When you see Christina Daniels, be sure to thank her for such an outstanding representation of the Columbus Northwest Studio! I can't wait till we all make it to the next one.

Two weeks in a row now, Mr. Brian Cantrell has proudly posted his name as your Teacher of the Week . Well done Brian!

Tonight we will be playing some games and celebrating the end of our festival. The theme is a dress up party, i.e. dresses ties, maybe not at the same time.. and were looking forward to seeing all of your smiling faces!

We're also looking for some volunteers to join us tomorrow at the Fitness Expo to do some on-stage dancing and showing off for about 30 min. Please let me know if you are interested ASAP. We need to perform from 1pm to 1:30pm. We could especially use some help from the fellas! As much as Brian and I love to dance with as many ladies as we can, sometimes we just don't have enough hands to turn them all.

Ladies and Gents, Welcome to all of you new faces I'm seeing around the studio & thanks for signing up for our sometimes delayed but always informative newsletter.

Last night we began the first week of Cha Cha for the Social Group class and with the usual suspects showing up. (Marina, Heidi, Melinda & Stacie) All I can say is Men??, you are missing out big time! A quick reminder to everyone, this class is available to anyone who is enrolled in a social program or higher, so don't be shy.

Unfortunately due to an emergency I was unable to attend last Friday's Famous Party. I did see a photo though and I certainly wish I could have been there for it! I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. In an interesting turn of events, Melinda Gardner was the only festival participant who qualifying to play the Hollywood Trivia game for a bonus lesson and instead of playing and taking the prize, she opted to wait for some real competition to show up and deferred to play the game at the party on October 5th.

I'm glad to see so many of you participating in FESTIVAL. For the last minute decision makers, you have until Kate leaves the studio on Saturday the 29th to get your payments in to win bonuses. Be extra nice to Kate as the Buckeyes don't play until 8pm, so you have a good chance that she will be here to teach lessons Saturday if you ask early enough. Don't forget to keep your fingers crossed and wish us well Sunday the 30th as I enjoy the honor of débuting one of our newest students, Mrs. Christina Daniels at the Team Match Competition in Cleveland, Ohio . This week the one and only Mr. Brian Cantrell managed to take the title as your Teacher of the Week. Go Brian!
